Algonquin Hotel

The Algonquin Hotel in New York City has been a gathering place for literary and artistic luminaries for more than 100 years. Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., Gertrude Stein and William Faulkner are just a few of the notable figures who’ve walked through its doors. As part of a recent renovation, Troy Lighting Contract Hospitality was called upon to create custom lighting fixtures for the hotel’s lobby, lounge and guest rooms.

“It was important for us to retain and enhance the rich history and beautiful architectural structure of the Algonquin while also bringing in a sense of modernity,” said Susan Caruso, president of Intra-Spec Hospitality Design - the interior design firm working on the hotel’s renovation. “Troy Lighting Contract Hospitality’s lighting was a large factor in helping us strike the necessary balance in public spaces.”

For the lobby, Troy crafted sconces with cascading crystal features and chandeliers with sculptural metal accents in polished nickel. The designs give a subtle nod to early 20th century chic and set off the deep wood tones of the hotel’s existing wood work. The Blue Bar now features cobalt blue colored, ring-shaped LED pendants and a back wall with blue LED strip lighting radiating through clear fluted glass tubes. The pieces use LED engineering and technology from Troy’s sister company CSL® (Creative Systems Lighting).
